Donkey does time in Barranquilla

Donkeys don’t make the best get-away vehicles, as robbers discovered in the coastal Colombian city of Barranquilla. The thoughtless thieves abandoned their four-legged accomplice, who took a hit for the team and is now doing time…

Pacing up and down his plot all day, “Joche” the donkey has been incarcerated (in a field) since Saturday, when his owners – who were attempting a robbery of construction materials in the city’s Villa Santos neighborhood – fled approaching police, leaving Joche to take the rap.

But in no way your typical prisoner, Joche seems to be relishing his time in the slammer.

“Since Saturday he’s been spending his time drinking water, eating grass, and the best thing, he doesn’t have to work and they don’t hit him when he’s tired,” said one of the local residents, who also noticed that Joche had gained a few pounds from all the chow he’s been chewing.

All the ass-ing around, however, will soon have to come to an end.

Joche will on Tuesday be transferred to the care of the Animal Protection Society, who will integrate the unknowing criminal accomplice back into society, hopefully somewhere resembling his penal paradise.
