The Colombian government collected 44.7 trillion Colombian pesos ($24.74 billion) in taxes in the first eight months of this year, the country’s Finance Ministry said Tuesday.

In 2009, the country’s tax collection agency, known as DIAN, had said it had collected COP45.40 trillion over the same period.

The government’s goal for the first eight months of this year was COP44.6 trillion.

Revenues from sales taxes were COP9.9 trillion, while revenues from income tax was COP14.8 trillion.

The tax collection in all of 2009 reached COP68.9 trillion.
