Demobilized paramilitary chief Diego Jose ‘Daniel’
Martinez, who died in a Bogota prison a month ago, was poisoned with
cyanide, a coroner concluded.
The confirmed poisoning brings uncertainty to the special ward for demobilized paramilitaries in La Picote prison where ‘Daniel’ was kept, together with other demobilized paramilitaries such as Ramon Isaza, ‘Monoleche’ and ‘Ernesto Baez’. It is likely that the paramilitary chief was poisoned by one of his fellow inmates because the paramilitaries prepare their own food, newspaper El Tiempo reported Thursday.
The Prosecutor General will investigate the murder.
