‘Isaza’ to fly to France with Betancourt: El Tiempo

by Adriaan Alsema December 6, 2008

‘Isaza’, the guerrilla that helped former politician Oscar Tulio
Lizcano escape his FARC captors, will fly to France Monday, accompanied
by former hostage Ingrid Betancourt, newspaper El Tiempo reported
Saturday
.

According to the newspaper, Wilson ‘Isaza’ Bueno Largo, will board the same plane as the French-Colombian ex-politician after she concludes her South American tour.

Ingrid Betancourt gave Colombian President Álvaro Uribe a letter from his French Counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy last Saturday in which the French Head of State repeated the country’s willingness to grant asylum to the guerrilla. The two Presidents talked about ‘Isaza’ shortly last Wednesday.

The guerrilla deserter would be the first to be rewarded amnesty and asylum in France for surrendering himself and his hostage.

Both Lizcano and Betancourt have been pressuring a swift amnesty and asylum for ‘Isaza’ after he helped Lizcano escape the Chocó jungle in October.
