Interpol looking for Colombian politician suspected of murdering wife

International police organization Interpol on Wednesday issued an international search warrant for a politician from the north of Colombia who is suspected of murdering his wife.

Colombian authorities had requested the international arrest warrant for the Julio Gonzalez Velez, a former council member in the city of Cucuta.

According to the prosecution, Velez is complicit in the murder of his wife Maria Claudia Avendaño Castaño, who died in April 2010 after being shot in the head.

A Cucuta judge judge ordered the politician’s arrest earlier this month after which authorities found Velez had gone missing.

Prosecution investigators discarded the possibility that Velez’ wife commited suicide.
