Internet users in Colombia increase by 34.6%

Internet users in Colombia increased by 418 per 1,000 people in 2009 putting the country at the forefront in Latin America, according to a report by a technology company.

According to the latest report by the Indicator for the Society of Information (ISI) throughout Latin America, internet users in Colombia rose to 418 users per thousand inhabitants this year which revealed a general increase of 34.6 percent, reported new site Portafolio Wednesday.

Other technology utensils included the diffusion of cell phones, whose numbers per thousand inhabitants increased 12 percent to reach 837 units per thousand inhabitants.

Authorities expressed hopes that next year the number of computers will advance 12.2 percent to 101 units per thousand inhabitants.

The number of internet users who subscribed to a broadband service increased by 11.8 percent.

In this way, Colombia is currently leading the expansion of online retail sales across Latin America, with US$ 12 spent per year per person (signifying an increase of 56.2 percent).
