Inter-American Development Bank launches new social network for Latin American businesses

The Inter-American Development Bank (BID) has launched a new social network for Latin  American small and medium businesses in a bid to increase international trade, Colombian media reported on Thursday morning.

ConnectAmericas is the new virtual platform designed for small and medium businesses from Latin America and Caribbean whose aim is to generate support, opportunities and connection between the companies.

The platform will help small companies “to meet all the necessary requirements such as customs regulations, duties and taxes, insurance, packaging and labeling in order to export to any country” said Stephen Fenwick, DHL Express Americas manager, according to El Espectador.

Created by BID and partners such as DHL, ConnectAmericas will provide access to potential customers, suppliers, partners and investors in the region and worldwide.

Fabritzio Opperti, chief of the BID Unit of Trade and Investment, stated that the social network created is a response to the demands of the small and medium businesses to facilitate export and development.

“We are using the power of social media and the expansion of Internet use in Colombia, Latin America and the Caribbean to provide businesses with accessible information through reliable sources” said Opperti according to El Espectador.

DHL, the world’s largest logistic company, is one of BID’s partners and will be actively working on the platform, providing online courses, videos, articles and information pages about countries, La Gran Noticia newspaper reported.

Other important BID partners in ConnectAmericas project are Google Inc., Visa and Alibaba.com.
