INPEC director responsible for missing evidence, says Santos

Colombia’s prosecution discovered the disappearing of the hardware after they went to Itaguí Prison to collect evidence of the continuing criminal activities of the warlords and their possible links to Colombian politicians.”INPEC is responsible for its prisons and it will have to explain where the things are and who took them,” Santos said. The director of the institute, General Eduardo Morales, wil have to answer personally for the disappearing of the USB-sticks, sim-cards and hard disks, he added.Morales admits the computer of AUC head Salvatore Mancuso is gone and that it’s not clear where the hard drive of Ramiro ‘Cuco’ Vanoy is, but denied to Caracol Radio the disappearance of sim-cards and other hardware from the other extradited warlords. He blames the exceptional position of the paramilitary chiefs for the disappearing of the hardware. According to him the capos were allowed more visits, to have cellphones and even were allowed access to the internet inside their cell.”That was the weakness of the settlement,” he told Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, “These benefits they received could be used against the Justice and Peace Law they benefited from.”Morales wasn’t able to answer how the hardware had disappeared and said he had received no official warning from Bogotá.
