‘Ingrid Betancourt’s properties seized’

A Colombian judge has ruled that Ingrid Betancourt’s assets be seized, according to her estranged husband’s lawyer, Caracol Radio reported Wednesday.

The decision to freeze and seize all assets is precautionary and will be valid until the end of the divorce process when they will be divided, according to the lawyer, Eli Abel Torrado.

Torrado said that the judge decided that both parties will get 50% of the assets belonging to the pair. This includes movable and immovable property and royalties from the sale of Betancourt’s book.

Juan Carlos Lecompte, Betancourt’s ex-husband, in September 2010 requested the freezing of his former wife’s assets, and asked for the royalties from her latest book to be included in their divorce settlement.

The French-Colombian politician, who was kidnapped by the FARC and held from 2002-2008, is currently living in France.
