Ingrid Betancourt to join hunger strike for US men detained in Iran

Former FARC hostage Ingrid Betancourt has announced plans to join the hunger strike to be initiated Saturday by the mothers of two U.S. men arbitrarily detained in Iran, Colombian media reported Friday.

The French-Colombian woman, infamous for the drama surrounding her detention and release from the FARC, and subsequent ugly divorce, said that she will join the five-day hunger strike for the two men who have now been held captive in a prison in Tehran for 22 months after accidentally crossing into Iraq’s neighbor while hiking.

The mothers of Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, both 28, decided to hold the hunger strike in solidarity with their sons, whom they believe refused to eat following the delay of a scheduled court hearing, as well as to mark the anniversary of the one time that they have been allowed to see their sons since the detention, reported American media.
