The 10 members of the country’s security forces were detained Thursday, after two siblings were killed near the town of south-western town of Corinto by security forces fighting leftist rebels. The military admitted the killings, but claimed the two people who died – a 27-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman – belonged to the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Locals, in turn, said they were harvesting coffee.Community leaders reacted to the killings by taking hostage the 10 officials as they sought to remove the bodies. They were released, but the indigenous people said they would file a formal complaint with the army.
