Indigenous killed in army, FARC crossfire

An indigenous Colombian was killed in the crossfire between the national army and the guerrilla group FARC, Caracol reported Thursday.

Hernando Vitonaz, 22, died Wednesday in the town of Tacueyo in the Cauca department.

“Tragically there was a strong confrontation and aviation bombing in all parts. He was tragically one more victim of this guard,” a family member of the deceased, Esneida Vitonaz, told Caracol.

Another indigenous man, 40, was injured and is being treated at the Hospital of Santander in Quilichao.

Combat continues between the army’s 3rd Brigade and guerrilla forces in the mountainous region of the Central Cordillera.
