Income of Colombia travel agencies increase 13% in 2011

The Colombian government reported a huge increase in tourism for 2011.

According to DANE, Colombia’s Administrative Department of National Statistics, the nominal income of travel agencies increased 13.1% in 2011, compared to a 1.8% decrease reported in 2010.

The fourth quarter of 2011 alone saw a 16.8% increase in income whereas the same period in 2010 showed a 4.7% decrease.

Employment was also up 1.4% in 2011, while 2010 experienced a 4.9% decline.

Colombia’s tourism board has taken efforts to repair Colombia’s international image as a dangerous place, including the launch of a promotional campaign in South America last year, with the slogan, “the only risk is that you’ll want to stay.”
