IG wants FARC-politics cases re-opened

Colombia’s Inspector General has asked the Prosecutor General to re-open
the investigations against former Minister Alvaro Leyva and journalist
Carlos Lozano for their alleged ties to rebel group FARC.

According to Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez, the investigations were closed prematurely and more investigations are needed to determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed or not.

Leyva, a former mediator with the FARC, and Lozano, director of communist magazine Voz, are accused by the government of being allies of the FARC after their names appeared on seized guerrilla computers. The Prosecutor General’s Office had acquitted the two, because the material found on the computers was not enough to continue a criminal investigation.
