The International Criminal Court will hear accusations of war crimes that have been committed in Colombia but have never seen justice, in a series of trials beginning on November 1st.

From this day, according to news site Caracol, the International Tribunal Safeguard, signed by Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and his predecessor Andres Pastrana, which prevents the legal recognition of war crimes committed during the Colombian Armed Conflict, will be lifted.

According to Ivan Cepeda, the Director of the Movement for Victims of State Crimes, the lifting of the safeguard will open a new dimension for criminal investigation in Colombia, “allowing exemplary sentences in cases where justice has never been given”.
