The danger of hurricane Sandy affecting parts of the Colombian Caribbean has disappeared as the category two hurricane sweeps over Jamaica.
Initially the office of National Risk Management had triggered an alert to track the path of the weather phenomenon, however it is now clear that the only danger lies at sea where small boats have been advised to restrict their movement due to high winds and strong waves.
The Colombian islands of San Andres and Providencia are no longer in any risk and although there is cloud cover, winds and waves are as normal.
There has been a torrent of rain in the departments of Magdalena, Atlantico and Bolivar recently, though it is possible that this is due to the second winter season of the year.
Hurricane Sandy originated from the south east of Cuba and has since moved up through Jamaica and is expected to reach Bahamas on Friday.
Sandy has caused huge floods and damage to houses with maximum winds of approximately 109mph being recorded. On Wednesday one man was killed as it hit Jamaica.
