Hunger in Colombia is expanding faster than in Africa: UN

Hunger is Colombia is expanding faster than in the poorest parts of Africa, United Nations statistics show. Almost half of the Colombian population is suffering some degree of hunger.

According to spanish press agency Efe, hunger in Colombia is expanding faster than in Sub-Saharan Africa, where most mal-nutrition cases have been reported.

So far, hunger has taken its toll on children and indigenous communities in Colombia.

The report says 12 out of 100 children under five years of age suffer from chronic mal-nutrition.

The severest cases have been reported in the Colombian indigenous tribe of Nabusimake, where 75% of the children suffer from anemia.
