Huge natural gas reserve found in northern Colombia

A natural gas reserve holding two trillion cubic feet of methane was discovered in northern Colombia, a quantity that could convert the country into an important world supplier of the combustible.

American mining company Drummond, which operates coal deposits in the zone, discovered the reserve in César, 900 kilometers north of Bogotá, reported Spanish news agency EFE.

“We found reserves of 2.3 trillion cubic feet. We’ve already presented a discovery report,” the president of the multinational, Augusto Jiménez, told El Tiempo.

The find could convert Colombia into “one of the most important producers of this hydrocarbon in the world,” he added.
