Honduran ambassador to Colombia resigns over sex party scandal

The ambassador of Honduras to Colombia resigned Saturday after a newspaper revealed an embassy employee had thrown a party during which guests defecated in the ambassador’s office, and stole laptops and cell phones.

The Honduran Foreign Ministry had asked Ambassador Carlos Humberto Rodriguez for his “immediate and irrevocable resignation,” it said on the Foreign Ministry’s website.

Rodriguez came under fire after Honduran newspaper El Heraldo revealed that an embassy employee had used the embassy office to throw an alcohol-drenched party with friends and prostitutes. When embassy personnel came into office the next morning, two laptops and a number of cell phones were missing, and human feces were found on the floor of the ambassador’s office and on the desk of the military attache.

Colombian police confirmed the robbery after which the Foreign Ministry in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa said to “continue to evaluate the responsibility of diplomatic and administrative officials with the purpose of clarifying the events that occurred and their consequences.”
