Legendary Colombian singer Helenita Vargas is in a “very delicate” condition, according to doctors treating her for a respiratory condition.
Vargas, known as “La Ronca de Oro” (The lady with the golden husky voice), is currently being assisted by a breathing tube after being diagnosed with acute respiratory complications, reports Radio Santa Fe.
Her condition is complicated by the fact that she underwent a liver transplant in April 2010, which has been followed by a string of medical problems as her body struggled to accept the new organ.
The singer, who has enjoyed an illustrious career spanning 50 years, was admitted to hospital in Cali three weeks ago and has been in intensive care for three days.
