Heavy rains on Monday collapsed three sections of the “La Cordialidad” road that connects Cartagena with Barranquilla in northeast Colombia.
According to radio station Caracol Radio, the main wipe-out occurred after a nearby stream overflowed onto the road, at a point where the altitude is over four miles high.
“At this moment it [the road] is disabled to passing vehicles while the necessary work is done to recover the road,” Interior District Secretary Milton Buelvas said.
In addition to disabling the roads, Colombia’s rainy season has already killed at least 23 people and destroyed at least 116 homes while affecting over 67,000 people.
