Heavy rains make thousands homeless

More than 900 families are affected by heavy rains that hit central and
south west Colombia, the International Red Cross (ICRC) announced
Monday.

In Soacha, south of Bogotá, 400 families reportedly lost their homes and heavy winds damaged the houses of approximately 200 families in the departments of Valle del Cauca and Chocó.

At least 500 people from the Cauca department are now isolated from the rest of the world after avalanches blocked several roads.

The ICRC, together with Colombian aid agencies, are trying to reach all affected families with fresh water, food and clothes.
