Colombian meteorologists warn that hot weather that hit large parts of
Colombia will last until mid September. They urge people to drink
plenty.
According to Caracol Radio, the temperature the past weekend went up to 99 degrees Fahrenheit in the central city of Neiva, 96 on the Caribbean coast and 93 in Cali.
Meteorologists see no reason to assume the temperature will go down before the beginning of the rainy season in mid September.
All people, but especially the elderly, are urged to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and to use sunblock to avoid the tropical sun to cause damage. One woman reportedly died because of the heat.
Authorities, especially in the driest of areas in the country are on alert for forest fires.
