Gunpowder explosion on Cali bus leaves 6 injured

Six passengers on a bus in the southwestern Colombian city of Cali sustained injuries on New Year’s Eve when gunpowder exploded at a checkpoint.

According to Fabio Castaneda, head of the Metropolitan Police of Cali, the police conducted a routine search of the Codetrans bus at the Alfonso Lopez checkpoint.

Castaneda stated that upon seeing a police officer, a passenger dropped a bag containing gunpowder, and the subsequent explosion injured six of the twenty passengers.

There were no serious injuries, and all six were treated at a nearby hospital.

Authorities have identified the passenger who possessed the gunpowder.
