Guerrillas convicted for murder of Chocó mayor

Three FARC guerrillas Tuesday were sent to jail for 28 and 30 years
after being found guilty of murdering the mayor of Jurado, Chocó in
2001.

“Jose Nicanor Gonzalez Lozano and Edwin Eduardo Hurtado Jimenez will pay, for aggravated homicide, 28 years in prison. Ruben Dario Rivas Lobon will pay 30 years in prison, also for aggravated homicide and for the crime of rebellion,” the verdict read.

Mayor Henry Perea Torres was dragged out of his office and murdered on January 18, 2001 after having received numbers of threats by the FARC, who accused the mayor of collaboration with paramilitary organization AUC.
