Members of the Green Party and the Partido de la U are accusing each other of buying votes in the Colombian coffee-growing department of Risaralda ahead of Sunday’s presidential elections, reports Caracol Radio.
Senator Maria Isabel Mejia Marulanda of Juan Manuel Santos’ party claims that members of the Green Party are conspiring to buy votes, while Green coordinator Carlos Alfonso Victoria asserts that it is the Partido de la U who are buying votes through social programs of the local and national governments.
The Electoral Observation Mission (MOE), who are one of three organizations observing Sunday’s elections, will be watching out for various kinds of fraud, including that of buying votes, as observers witnessed the practice first hand during Colombia’s congressional elections in March.
