Government to create mineral and infrastructure agencies

The government will create agencies to help manage minerals and infrastructure in Colombia, President Juan Manuel Santos announced at the 60-year celebration of Ecopetrol.

According to the president, the agencies will be modeled after the National Hydrocarbons Agency following the success of the relationship between the oil agency and “Colombia’s largest and most beloved petroleum company” Ecopetrol.

“Time has demonstrated that the reform made in 2003, when Ecopetrol devoted itself to what it does best, which is to explore and exploit oil and gas, that created the National Hydrocarbons agency to administer and regulate the areas and resources was a positive change,” Santos said. “When schemes are successful, we must replicate them.”
