200 million peso reward for information on wiretap scandal

The Colombian government offers a 200 million peso (US$ 90 thousand)
reward for information leading to those who ordered the illegal
wiretapping carried out by Colombia’s intelligence service DAS.

According to a government statement, “the wiretapping is against the values of a democracy” and it “condemns the criminal actions committed by former officials of the DAS”.

The Prosecutor General’s Office is currently investigating the DAS for its illegal practices. According to several publications in the media, the intelligence agency illegally intercepted phone calls of opposition congressmen, Supreme Court judges, journalists and even candidates for the 2006 presidential election.
