Colombia’s National Government declared the Tumaco region a disaster
area after heavy rains and floods made thousands of families homeless.
The city, located on Colombia’s Pacific coast in the Nariño department, was flooded by the Mira river a week ago, but continuous heavy rains have caused other rivers to flood. 42,000 people are reported to be affected by the weather.
Nariño Governor Antonio Navarro Wolf had asked Bogotá for the extra funds.
Now that the area is official disaster area, the Government can use extra resources to help those affected.
