Government and judicial strikers to hold talks

Striking judicial workers and the Colombian government have agreed to begin talks Monday in an effort to end the now 10-day-old strike that has paralyzed the country’s courts. Negotiation will continue until there is a solution, said Colombian Interior and Justice minister Fabio Valencia Cossio.

Establishing conditions for negotiations took eight hours of discussion. Ultimately, the government committed to studying how a salary increase would fit into the financial picture, while the union will reestablish the services of the specialized criminal circuit courts beginning Monday at 8 a.m., according to El Tiempo.

Parties at the negotiating table will include the Ministers of the Interior and Finance, the Planning Department, the Judicial Council, the lieutenant prosecutor and Asonal, the judicial workers union.
