Colombia’s James Rodriguez Uruguay goal voted World Cup’s best

Global soccer fans have voted the goal by Colombia midfielder James Rodriguez against Uruguay as the best of the World Cup that ended in Brazil earlier this month.

A goal made by James against Japan ended third in the ranking after The Netherlands’ Robin van Persie’s header against Spain.

The Colombian government and a number of national media outlets had campaigned to vote in favor of Rodriguez’ and secure more glory for the star who had already won the Golden Boot for scoring most goals at the world’s most important soccer tournament.

The midfielder took to Twitter to thank those who voted for his goal, saying “it was a beautiful goal, a beautiful moment to never forget.”

The AS Monaco star entered a rumor mill after Colombia’s most successful World Cup bid in soccer history: Spanish press has reported that Real Madrid wants to buy the player while British tabloid The Daily Mirror said that Manchester United was also in the race.

According to leading soccer website Goal.com, James and Madrid have already reached an agreement and are expected to formally announce the Colombian’s transfer to the Spanish capital.
