German citizen allegedly robbed by soldiers

by Katharina Wecker June 9, 2009

Colombia’s prosecution is investigating if soldiers were involved in
the robbery of a German citizen during a hike in Paramo de Sumapaz,
near Bogota ten days ago.

Friedrich Heinrich claims to know Colombia’s countryside like few Colombians do. The German has lived in the country for 14 years and spends at least one weekend a months to camp, hike or walk. Mostly with accompany.

On 31 May, the 46-year-old man was hiking alone when two men armed with a 30 centimeter long knife approached him. The thieves took everything he had and threatened him with death if he would dare to look them in the faces.

“The two men were dressed in blue, green and gray camouflage and wore balaclavas” Heinrich said. “Their manners and outfits suggests that the criminals might be members of the security forces”, he added.

El Espectador contacted the Commander of Brigade XIII, Ricardo Diaz, who is responsible for the Sumapaz district. Diaz assured that in this area there are no illegal armed groups active.

The robbery was reported to the Prosecution.
