‘Gastronomical Museum’ exhibit has Cali citizens licking their chops

Cali‘s first “Gastronomical Museum” exhibit, which opened Tuesday, will serve as a space for visitors to learn about the development of Colombian cuisine, from the pre-Columbian era to the present.

The project, undertook by students of the Cocinarte culinary school and supported by the city’s Culture and Tourism Department, aims to make the city the second gastronomical destination in the country.

According to project leader Giovanna Mora Calle, the exhibit will take up five rooms of the Cocinarte building for the next week, displaying examples from the Indigenous, Colonial, Transition and Contemporary eras as well as explaining the use of spices in traditional Colombian dishes. The exhibit will provide the community with a range of material related to the evolution of the Andean nation’s cuisine.

“These spaces are suitable for wrapping visitors in our flavors and smells and moreover, this initiative educates, makes conscious and generates a sense of ownership among Cali residents,” said Culture and Tourism Secretary Carlos Alberto Rojas Cruz.

The exhibit will be open from Tuesday, June 14 until Friday, June 17 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM in the Cocinarte building, located in the El Bosque neighborhood.
