Galeras volcano decreases activity

Authorities lowered the level of alert in the vicinity of the south
west Colombian Galeras volcano to orange Saturday after the volcano
calmed down.

An eruption Friday caused the authorities to raise the alert level to red, obliging all those living nearby to evacuate immediately. Only 75 people responded to that call.

The volcano did spew gas and ashes on Saturday, but that activity was not enough to maintain the code red.
