Gaddafi wins donkey festival

A donkey dressed up as Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi has won this year’s National Donkey Festival in the north-Colombian village of San Antero.

The donkey, dubbed “Asnuar Al Burrafi” for the occasion, beat other donkeys dressed up as Colombian pop diva Shakira and her lover, Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique.

The owner of the Gaddafi donkey told Caracol Radio he was hoping to transmit a message to the Libyan leader to “stop being an ass against his people.”

The Catholic Church — as it does every year — fiercely criticized the timing of the donkey festival, which is traditionally held during Easter, a time for contemplation and repent according to the Catholic religion.
