From the world’s biggest to the world’s smallest egg, in one Colombian day

Less than 24 hours after a Colombian hen stunned the world with a giant egg, a fellow Andean chicken has produced another record-breaking offering, reported daily El Diario Wednesday.

Little did Colombia Reports ever imagine that it could be reporting on the world’s smallest egg BUT ONE DAY after reporting on the biggest.

But lo and behold, a 12-year-old girl in the northwestern town of Boqueron has revealed a dainty output from her pet chicken which it’s hoped could be a world record, just hours after Cundimarca farmer Hernando Niño claimed his hen’s giant egg could also make history.

Serafina, the hen in question, usually lays eggs weighing a healthy 50 to 60 grams, and measuring around six inches — but 20 days ago produced a tiny two and half inch egg weighing just one gram.

It’s an amazing 245 times lighter than yesterday’s mammoth egg from fellow Colombian hen Franciscana.

Family friend Nicholas Tabares, who’s been looking after Serafina following fears a neighboring dog could snap her up, is carefully guarding it.

The hen has since returned to laying normal-sized eggs and Tabares believes that the mini egg was just a “natural phenomenon.”
