Francisco Santos to be RCN executive

Colombia’s former Vice President Francisco Santos will be director of national broadcaster RCN Radio’s morning news, the station announced.

Santos, who is President Juan Manuel Santos’ cousin, used to be editor-in-chief of Colombia’s largest newspaper El Tiempo, which until 2007 was owned by the Santos family.

The former vice president is also director of the NGO Pais Libre, for hostage victims.

After his eight years as vice president ended Saturday with the inauguration of the new president, Santos told the radio station – dubbed by critics “Radio Casa de Nariño” – that he will first take a few weeks of vacation and will start directing the 6AM – 10AM news broadcast at the end of August or beginning of September.
