France offers Colombia discounted tanks

The French government offered Colombia between 30 and 40 Leclerc tanks at a discount as well as offering to modernize the vehicles which are currently not operational.

The operation is part of a strategy by the French Ministry of Defense to sell 101 of these tanks, manufactured by Nexter, in order to get “some leeway in the budget of the Army,” reported news station Caracol Radio Wednesday.

According to British company BAE the offer is just the first part of a total amount of EUR 220 million for 129 vehicles which the French armed forces plan to establish with the Swedish company hired, said BAE Systems.
