Four soldiers killed in FARC attack

Four Colombian soldiers were killed in a reported FARC attack near the town of López de Micay, in the department of Cauca.

The attack took place at 8am local time, about 20 minutes from the town’s center. Initial reports had 20 soldiers killed but this was later adjusted to the current number of four.

The soldiers formed part of the José Hilario López battalion, which had been guarding the area to avoid a possible FARC take-over.

Rumors about such a take-over caused a level of panic in the hours after the attack. A local priest, Luis Andrade, confirmed that the situation at this moment is ‘delicate’.

The four casualties and a local inhabitant wounded in the attack were brought to a football stadium accomodation in the town.
