Former prosecutor gets 5 years for blackmail

A former prosecutor was sentences to five years in jail and a 22
million peso (US$9 thousand) fine for manipulating statements by
demobilized paramilitaries.

Former prosecutor José Alfredo Jaramillo is sentenced because he would have tried blackmailing a businessman from the north of Colombia.

Demobilized paramilitary Uber Enrique ‘Juancho Dique’ Márquez had made incriminating statements, linking the businessman to the AUC. According to the Supreme Court, it was proven that the prosecutor used these statements to demand 500 million pesos from the businessman.
