Former hostage Perez to run for Senate

Former hostage Luis Eladio Perez announced Saturday he wants to return to Colombia’s Senate in 2010.

Perez, who was released by the FARC in february 2008 after close to seven years of captivity, told Caracol Radio he will be on the Liberal Party’s candidate’s list for the Senate.

The politician was member of the Senate for the same political party when he was kidnapped by FARC guerrillas in June 2001.

Perez says he and the Liberal Party are currently finalizing talks about his return to Congress and that he plans to lead projects to ensure hostages still held by the country’s illegal armed groups can return home.
