Former Colombian anti-mafia prosecutor sentenced for aiding mafia

A Colombian judge on Wednesday sentenced a former prosecutor of an anti-mafia unit to five years in prison after finding him guilty of aiding drug traffickers.

Leobaldo Latorre was convicted of having links with the drug trafficker Carlos Aguirre Babativa, alias ‘The Lord’, and more specifically providing him with information on how to handle legal prosecutions while taking bribes and using his influence in the favor of the mafia boss.

Evidence such as audio and video and a total of 68 documents were used against Latorre resulting in him been sentenced to 5 years and 5 months in prison.

Latorre is the nephew of former army general Pauselino Latorre, with whom the former prosecutor was arrested in 2008, and who also has been convicted of corruption.
