Former US hostage wants reelection Uribe

Tom Howes, one of the three American FARC hostages who were rescued in
July last year, openly supported the idea of Colombian president Álvaro
Uribe getting a third term.

Howes and his two compatriots were rescued in the same operation that set free former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt.

“I hope that he’ll have another reelection,” Howes said in an interview with CNN en Español. “I think he is one of the best presidents in the last 100 years in Colombia.”

According to Howes, Uribe’s strategy of pressurizing the FARC instead of entering negotiation is the correct way to deal with the complicated situation.

“The FARC are like a cancer that needs to be erased, eliminated in any way,” the American added.

Howes recently published a book about his experiences with the FARC.
