Forgive me: Spanish journalist to Shakira and Pique

A Spanish journalist who made false assertions that he had seen Shakira and Gerard Pique passionately embracing about one month ago, beged the stars’ forgiveness, reported El Tiempo Tuesday.

In spite of his declarations, made only last Friday, Javier Sarda has now published an open letter entitled “I am sorry Pique,” in which he retracts his claims.

“I made the mistake of referring to a kiss between Pique and Shakira that may have occurred in a restaurant. The second mistake was the way I said it, which is only justified in the context of an informal chat. What had seemed to me as irrelevant information has since taken on more significance.”

The Spanish journalist denied that he witnessed the “kiss” at any time, explaining that he received the information from a source and that “as all sources, [it] may be false.”

“In my mind, by the way in which I understand my duty as a journalist and because I never want to cause distress to others, I must apologize to Pique and Shakira categorically and openly. I completely regret it.”
