Five more indigenous murdered in southern Colombia: ONIC

Five more members of the Awa indigenous people were murdered in the southern Colombian department of Nariño, indigenous organization ONIC have claimed.

According to the ONIC, the murders took place between September 13 and 17.

The deadly violence against the Awa follows a number of murders and massacres of members of the native inhabitants of Nariño, one of the departments that is most affected by guerrilla and drug related violence.

The murders have led to the displacement of hundreds of people over the past few weeks.

The ONIC now demands that the illegal armed groups, suspected of committing the violence against the indigenous, respect and guarantee the lives and human rights of the indigenous in Nariño and asks the Colombian authorities to investigate the murders.
