Finnish man deported for role in kidnapping

Colombian authorities deported a Finnish man for his role in the kidnapping of his countryman Oly
Valtieri Saardi.

Regional DAS director Edgar Durán said Timo Tapio Mustonen — who earlier was reported to be Danish — was deported after it was revealed that he had acted as an intermediary between the kidnappers and the victim’s family. Mustonen had attempted to negotiate the ransom of US$661 thousand for Valtieri.

Police found the kidnapped man’s computer, credit cards and clothes in the Mustonen’s possession. He is wanted by interpol for aggrevated fraud, embezzlement, forgery and escape from prison.

Local authorities had earlier reported Valtieri was Danish.

Despite his deportation, Mustonen remains linked to the current Colombian authorities investigation into the kidnapping.
