In the first week of August food lovers will have the opportunity to feast on local dishes during the south Colombia city of Cali’s Typical Food Festival.
Tourists and locals alike will be able to savour Cali specialities, such as the thick “champus” drink and the smoothie-like “lulada.” Also on the menu will be other regional specialities like breaded pig foot and Vallecaucan hen, as well as dishes from other parts of Colombia such as Antioquian beans.
Visitors should be sure to leave space for deserts like “desamargado,” a succulent citric-sweet mix of orange, lemon, pumpkin, grapefruit and early figs, as well as traditional meringues.
As well as the mouthwatering smorgasbord of local handicrafts and Vallecaucan flowers will also be on sale.
The festival will take place at the elegant Rancho de Amaro, a 20 minute drive away from Cali, which provides an impressive view of the Valle del Cauca. The event, which runs the weekend of August 7 and 8 will open its doors at 11am and close at 7.
