FC Dallas sign Colombian defender

by Jonathan Roorda July 23, 2009

Major League Soccer side FC Dallas have signed Colombian player Jair Benitez on loan from Deportivo Cali.

“Jair Benitez is going to be a very good addition for FC Dallas,” said club manager Schellas Hyndman.

“He brings tremendous experience and athleticism to the left fullback position, one of the areas on our team that we had identified for improvement. In addition to being a good defender, Jair is a pure left-sided player that can get up and down the line, overlap and send in crosses.”

The 30-year-old defender gained valuable experience at several Colombian clubs, having represented Envigado, Santa Fe, Independiente Medellin, Pereira and Cali. The first half of this year, Benitez was loaned out to his previous team, Medellin.

The player also formed part of the Colombian national team at the 2007 Copa America.
