FARC would turn down church as foreign observer: ANNCOL

The FARC would never allow the Vatican to provide the foreign observer
for the commission that is to manage the release of six hostages by the
guerrillas, the FARC-alligned ANNCOL press agency said Monday.

According to the Swedish website — often used by the guerrillas for their communication — Uribe is trying to frustrate the release by “stubbornly” proposing the Vatican.

“He wants to involve the catholic church or the Vatican (…) while the FARC have said in thousand ways the church won’t go, because it stepped out itself,” ANNCOL writes.

“The logic of Uribhitler [Uribe] is to involve the Catholic Church, a supporter of the extremist policies of his fascist regime,” the website adds.

Uribe Monday asked the Vatican to provide the foreign observer demanded by the FARC as part of the commission to facilitate the release of two politicians and four members of the security forces. The FARC had demanded at least one foreign “guarantor”, but the Uribe administration has rejected any foreign interference in its dealings with the Marxist rebels.
