Rebel group the FARC invited Colombian Congress’ Peace Commission to the peace negotiations, allegedly affirming their openness and commitment to peace, reported local media on Wednesday.
The FARC’s open support of the Congress’ Peace Commission is “to expose to the world the aspirations that they [the FARC] have about peace in Colombia,” said lead FARC negotiator Rodrigo Granda, who read from a FARC statement in Havana, according to news broadcast CMI.
The Congress’ Peace Commission, which has collected statements of peace proposals from public forums throughout Colombia, will reportedly be presented at the negotiating table in Havana, Cuba to both FARC and government delegations.
“We cannot have anything but open hearts from those who truly yearn for reconciliation and the conclusion of the war, “It will give fundamental input to draw conclusions that delineate the path toward reconciliation that the Colombian people yearn for.”
Granda also allegedly announced that the FARC and Colombia’s government will hold a press conference tomorrow in order to debrief the public on the current state of peace negotiations that have been going on since November 20 in Havana, Cuba.
